The Rev. Thomas E. Taylor's Profile
Tom Taylor is an ordained Lutheran pastor, licensed social worker and pastoral psychotherapist. He is supervised and has been extensively trained by Dr. David Grand in Brainspotting (BSP), Creativity and Sports Enhancement and providing treatment for Sports Traumatic Stress Disorder (STSD). He has completed BSP 1 & 2, a BSP intensive training, EMDR 1 & 2, EvTFT 1 & 2 and workshops by Lisa Schwarz and Dr. Uri Bergmann. In 2006, Taylor was personally trained by Dr. Alan Botkin in Induced After Death Communication (IADC)and frequently uses this treatment with BSP in grief counseling.
Tom served as a fire service chaplain for nearly 28 years and as a United States Navy chaplain also. After 9/11, Taylor volunteered as a Red Cross chaplain at the Temporary Morgue (T-Mort)at Ground Zero, a chaplain at St. Paul's Chapel Respite Care Center and a chaplain with the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner of NYC at Memorial Park. In the aftermath of the terrorist attacks, Rev. Taylor served as the Deputy Coordinator for Lutheran Disaster Response of New York and was the Assistant Director for Faithful Response, a 9/11 mental health recovery program. Taylor is a Board Certified Expert in Traumatic Stress by The American Academy of Experts in Traumatic Stress. He is author of "After 9/11: A Chaplain's Journey with EMDR" in a 2004 edition of Trauma Response Journal.
Taylor was named the Bellmore Herald’s 2007 Person of the Year, “…for his unrelenting service to those who help others in the community and beyond.” He also was a 2008 recipient of the Lutheran Social Services of New York "Kujenga Jamii" Award for his post 9/11 and community service work.
For fun, Tom enjoys painting in oils, photography and learning the guitar. He is married to Sheryl Lynn Miller-Taylor, also a therapist and along with their two children live on Long Island, NY.
